Last Updated on 2021-05-24 by Clay

After most Linux are installed, the Chinese input method is not installed on the system. However, we can actively install the Chinese input method in the system through configuration.

The following will record how to configure the well-known Chinese input method in Linux: New Chewing.

New Chewing is an Open Source input method software, which can rub on many platforms, including Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, Mac OS X …

I will simply record the configuration method here.

Configuration method

Before starting, it is best to install fcitx first.

apt-get install fcitx fcitx-chewing

After installation, open the language settings of the system.

Open the settings in the upper right corner.

Go to Region & Language and select Manage Installed Languages.

Change the Keyboard input method system to fcitx.

Back to this page, click the + symbol under Input Source.

Select Chinese (Taiwan)。

Select Chinese (Chewing). If you don’t have this option, it is recommended to log out and log in, or simply reboot and try.

Then you can use the Windows key + space key to switch the input method! Try to see if there are any problems in Chinese.
