After I watching the movie "Joker", two days have passed. It's not a straightforward, wonderful fighting "Hero movie". It is different from Marvel move, but it has its own step. It's a DC darkness story.
Before we started, I want to say, I don't have professional movie review skill, I just want to share my thinking after I watching it.
(And, all of my picture is from movie PV)
Tragic story
I haven't actually seen many stories about Joker, and why he change to Joker.
It should be said, if I read a Batman comic, I always focus about how Batman break the bad guy's spine.
But this movie is very special: It describe the "Joker" he have not become "Joker" yet. The movie can recognized as not belonging to comics, because his story is different from any previous Joker.
The "Joker" in the movie, whose name is Arthur Fleck, is an adult man who has a problem "crazy laugh".
His job is to play the clown with a signboard on the street.
At the beginning of the movie, he was snatched away by the little punk, and after a painful beaten, he was left alone in the alley.
This is the tragic beginning of the movie.
The neighborhood where he lives, we can see that it is a relatively backward area for Batman who owns his own mansion.
This long ladder gives a sense of front and back: Arthur, who is sad and low-headed, and painful;
Joker is crazy, happy, and free.
Arthur had to take care of his elderly mother.
He always wanted to be a talk show host. And he have a notebook that specialize to note jokes.
This sense makes people feel sad.
In reality, how many people are like that: silently huddled in the dark, painfully working for the future?
What us even more tragic is: All audience knows that we are watching the birth of "Joker", Arthur's efforts, after all, can not be rewarded.
Turning point
Once, on the subway, Arthur was finishing his work and go home.
That day, he just happened to be fired. He wore a clown suit that had not been taken off, and he had clown makeup that had not been removed.
On that day, the old sick "crazy laughter" was happened, and on the other side, there were just three men who failed and regarded Arthur's laughter as a mockery of them.
So, on the subway, Arthur was beaten by three men.
But at this time, after the last beating by the gangster, Arthur got a gun that his colleague gave him to defend himself. Indignant, Arthur shot and killed the three punks.
Arthur madly fled the scene. Here is the turning point for the transformation of "Joker" identity.
After running to the unmanned place, Arthur calmed down and began to make a very unreasonable move after killing people —— dancing leisurely.
In here, I feel that Arthur became "Joker" for the first time.
After that, because of this subway killing incident, the society began to raise a "Hate rich people" atmosphere. It is Arthur himself who brings it all.
This is probably the first time he has noticed that he is needed.
Then, under the deception of his mother, he went to find the Batman's father, thinking that it was his own biological father.
But he was beaten awkwardly on the bridge of his nose, and the other party declared that his mother had "Paranoia".
Be a Joker
Arthur went to Akhan Hospital and found that his mother really had a mental illness.
From that day on, I thought that the Arthur became to "Joker".
Everything that I believe is fake, even my girlfriend is imagining. (Wake up, you don't have a girlfriend!)
Betrayed by a colleague, deceived by a mother, and deceived by others in society.
"Joker" killed the mother and killed the colleague.
He said: "I used to think my life was a tragedy, but now I realise...it's a comedy. "
"Joker" found himself and decided not to disguise himself.
Contrast the back of the movie when the film opened, the clown at the moment was full of liberation and "satisfaction." As he said, he has nothing to bear.
He even went on the talk show and at the same time killed the show host who had always been worshipped.
Although he did not have that meaning, he incited the revolution.
At the end of the story, the assistant who came to the prison came to see him in prison. That is her:
And then "Joker" killed her and began to escape from Akhan hospital.
The plot ends here.
Impression
It's not a hero movie.
It is a thought-provoking, delicate and deep film. The main character Arthur has had a mental illness from the beginning, but it can be seen in the movie. He is trying to be a good person - even wanting to be a kind person and bringing laughter to others.
Becoming a "Joker" and saying "He doesn't want to pretend that this kind of thing is not funny." The "this kind of thing" in his mouth is based on the development of the movie. I think it means "killing". ..
But I don't think he has a "Joker" in his heart. At every point in time and every opportunity, he is actually likely to get help from others and become a better person.
It is this society that has caused the Joker. The central idea is constantly being repeated in the film.
This is a deep and sad movie. To be honest, the pace is very slow. I think it is quite suitable for the first time. The second watch may not be, I feel that this type of drama film two times to watch may feel a bit boring.
I always wanted to know where the Joker came from. I watched films about Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and the Flash series, but I consider this film to be one of the best DC comics. the actor’s game is just awesome, a very interesting drama.
I can’t agree with you more. 😉
