[iPad] App Experience Of Programming on iPad Pro 2020

Since Apple announced the news of the iPad Pro 2020, I have been thinking about this product, which is known as a new productivity tool, and I have been looking forward to one day I can buy it and experience the powerful features in the promotional video.

About five years ago, I bought the first iPad in my life, and it still works normally today. I used it to play some small games, read novels, watch movies… and it has battery life. It's pretty good. This makes me have a good impression of this product.

The brand-new iPad Pro launched this year even has a handsome promotional title like "Your next computer, not a computer". I can't help but start thinking, can I use this new version of the iPad Pro to replace my laptop?

After thinking about it for a long time, and actually saving a few months of money (of course I checked a lot of information on the Internet…), I finally bought the iPad Pro 2020 + Magic Keyboard.

I know some evaluations of this product, including the programming environment is actually not good, it should be said that unless you use SSH to connect to the remote server, it is difficult to write programs on the local side-I can only say that the expectation is only rumored. XCode can really be ported to iPadOS.

So, how do I program on the iPad Pro?

Install the terminal app

Since most of my current programs are written using VIM, the most important thing for me is that the terminal App must be installed. After all, I usually connect to the remote server to write programs.

As for the development of GUI-enabled software, I think it would obediently move to the computer and do it! My laptop hasn’t been retired, I just hope that the iPad will allow me to easily take it out and write a program at any time. XDDD

First of all, we must introduce Terminus, an app with a high score on the App Store.

If you have a server that can be connected remotely, this App is highly recommended. After connecting, using VIM can be said to be quite handy. Basically, the functions of VIM configuration can be used normally on this App-except for mouse click support, I have not been able to use this function normally on the iPad, which is the only pity .

But basically, I give this app a very high evaluation, after all, it is very smooth to use and can be opened more.

In fact, VIM can still support mouse clicks on Terminus-just open the click icon in the lower left corner. (Actually, it is the green click button in the picture above.)
