Microsoft Browser Development History

IE

In the past, there was an era when IE was the browser king.

IE, whose full name is Internet Explorer, is a graphical interface web browser developed by Microsoft.

2009/01/01 – 2009/12/31

The above is the result of statcounter statistics in 2009. It can be seen that in that era, IE was the most popular browser, FireFox was still the second place, and Chrome was still a browser that everyone might have heard of but would never use….

However, this situation changed in 2012:

The blue line is IE and the green line is Chrome. We can see that Chrome has overtaken the number of IE users this year.

After a year, there is a very strong gap.

Until now:

IE can’t even rank in the top five.

I really want to say why IE is gradually fading out of people’s sight. I think the main reason is only one word: slow.

I still remember a famous stalk picture on the Internet:

「IE 都敢問你是否把他」的圖片搜尋結果

This is a funny picture in Chinese: What it means is that IE has the courage to ask you whether you set it as the default browser, but you say you have no courage to confess to a girl you like.

This shows that the speed of IE is slow.

But the engineers at Microsoft are not stupid? Since everyone knows that this browser is very slow, why not optimize and enhance the speed?

I have seen a saying that the IE framework is doomed to its speed limit; it is precisely because of this that Microsoft will want to launch the next generation of browser: Edge.

Edge

Edge, the browser at first glance, looks quite similar to the original IE. No wonder many people mistakenly believe that Edge is IE.

Edge is currently the default browser highly recommended by Microsoft. It claims to be faster than Chrome under the Windows 10 operating system.

However, the launch of Edge is actually too late. At that time, because Google Chrome also integrated many various online tools supported by Google, everyone had too high a “stickiness” for Google Chrome (it should be said that the entire Google product line). In the end, Edge has gotten rid of the slow speed of IE in the past. It’s notorious, but everyone’s acceptance of it can’t rise anymore.

A well-optimized browser is not accepted by users. It is a pity to think about it.

In the future, Microsoft claims that Edget will be developed based on Chromium and support almost all platforms. This Chromium version is expected to be launched in 2020, so please wait and see when that happens! See if the browser developed by Microsoft will really have a new look!
