[MacOS] Use "Scroll Reverser" to Set the Direction of the Trackpad and the Mouse Wheel Separately

Last Updated on 2021-11-02 by Clay

When you are new to Mac OS, you must not be used to the scrolling direction of Mac OS. In Windows, the mouse wheel setting should be "scroll up to move the page up" and "scroll down to move the page down".

However, the opposite is true in Mac OS.

Of course we can change the settings. You can click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner to enter System Preferences... > Mouse to adjust, and uncheck the Scroll direction: Nature option.

So that the scrolling method of the mouse will be the same as the familiar Windows.

However, the direction of the mouse wheel is linked to the setting of the trackpad. After you modifying the setting, the intuitive two-finger swipe of the Mac OS trackpad controls the webpage, and the direction will also become the opposite.

How to set the trackpad and mouse wheel separately? It's the turn of the protagonist of this article: Scroll Reverser.

Scroll Reverser

Go to https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/, and install the software.

(Note: Future updates will be paid software, but the source code will also be published on GitHub: https://github.com/pilotmoon/Scroll-Reverser)

After downloading, start the software and you should see an icon with a double-headed arrow on the top:

After clicking, you will find that it still needs access permissions.

Unlock the lock in the lower left corner and give Scroll Reverser permission in Accessibility.

Next, add Scroll Reverser to Input Monitoring, and the software should be in the location where you downloaded it.

Then we can set the trackpad and mouse separately.
