[Google Sheets] Create a Select Options on Units via Drop-down Menu

Last Updated on 2022-07-20 by Clay

Lately I've started to like using Google Sheets instead Microsoft Excel for recording my billing, because the cloud sync and the ability to share on phones and tablets is so convenient.

In the process of recording, since I need to deduct different budgets for different items (Ex. meal expenses will deduct the budget for meal expenses), it is very troublesome to re-type each category once by once... Finally I found that I can directly set the drop-down menu to appear in the selected field (or you call it unit, cell) to quickly select my consumption category.

How to Set Drop-down Menu

Click the cell you want set the drop-down menu (you can select multiple, row or column), and select the upper option Data > Data validation to open the setting window.

There are many fields that can be set. If you need to set different text options like me, you can select List of items, and enter the options you want to set in the field next to it, and use separate comma , to split different options.

There are many options, such as setting a fixed value range, checking fields, plain text..., etc. You can try them freely.

Save your settings, you can see that a downward arrow symbol appears on the right side of the cell we selected. Clicking on the cell will pop up a drop-down menu for us to choose.
